Innkeeper Friends,

It's time for us to depart

It has been exactly twenty years ago since Jan and I celebrated our last Christmas in our home in Liberty Township...twenty years. Over those years we gained eight more grandchildren, two granddaughters-in-law and one great grandchild. We lost Jan’s parents - Joe and Mary, my mom - Mary and our precious niece, Heather. We both began collecting Social Security...money we had honestly earned and paid into the system over our lifetime.

And we responded to the call of our Lord and began Innkeeper Ministries. A ministry of servanthood to God’s full-time ministers. We sold our home and moved to Lewisburg Ohio to a property that
expanded over the early years to 70 acres of pristine Ohio countryside and nearly 15,000 square of first class facilities, a chapel and a fishing cabin. Over the next twenty years, by God’s Grace, we provided a Sabbath rest for over 10,200 guests. Providing amenities that were cost free, we ministered to pastoral couples from  39 states, missionaries from 27 countries, countless full-time Christian servants from para-church organizations and Christian schools. We, through God’s provision, offered them meals, hospitality, times of prayer and a lending ear, all within the boundaries of those 70 acres. No oceans, no mountains, no religious sites just lots of Jesus, fellowship and fresh air.

We’ve cherished every minute of our adventure with Him. We give God all the glory for our 20 year season. It has truly been His gift and miraculous journey to us - we are humbly grateful. God’s love and healing presence on this property has lifted many a struggling and weary heart, healing many wounds. He brought rest, joy, renewal and rejuvenated mission to many who were diligently seeking it. It has been our Savior’s power that has flowed through this place. It has been our unspeakable privilege to follow Him, serving by His side.

We loved His servants, God brought our way, each and every one of you. It meant so much to us, as you shared your stories and your lives. The laughter, the tears, the triumphs and the tragedies.Your open hearts have shaped our lives and brought us so much joy. and for that we will be eternally grateful. Gratefulness in action …you came to our front door a stranger and left our friends. You have a place in our hearts forever.

And the ripple effect...as every pastor, every missionary, every para-church leader, every Christian educator and every spouse went home refreshed, rejuvenated and renewed the positive side impact to families, church members, organizations, students and the lost was immeasurable.

Our love and gratitude extends to those who walked with us and supported us and the ministry through their obedience to God’s command. So many gave through prayer, while others gave by working along side us or through their generosity. Your commitment through your presence on the property or through the Spirit was always enjoyable, uplifting and encouraging. Your hugs of encouragement were always felt and deeply appreciated. Each and every one of you have played a big part in changed lives and in the blessings to others.
But that same twenty years means the body aches a little more, the step is slower, the tasks a bit more daunting...then Covid hits and we shutdown for a time. How long we didn’t know but we have always wanted to keep guests safe as well as ourselves, so we followed the protocols. And this lull gave us the opportunity to reflect and pray about our personal goals in light of the ministry’s future. In His loving and compassionate way, God has shown us that our season, here at Innkeeper Ministries has come to an end.

As we depart, we want to encourage each of you to walk humbly and boldly with God as you continue on your life’s journey. Life does look differently these days, but our Father remains the same. Always loving, compassionate, tender and healing, all powerful and in control. So, our message remains... we encourage you to stay in the Word, diligently pray without ceasing, strive to know God deeper and He will give His joy and peace that passes all understanding.
“The Lord is king! He is robed in majesty. Indeed, the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past. The floods have risen up, O Lord. The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves. But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore— the Lord above is mightier than these! Your royal laws cannot be changed. Your reign, O Lord, is holy forever and ever.”
